Hello world. I have caved. For all you avid instagrammers, you might have noticed the massive influx of 'teas'. I put teas in inverted commas because they have always seemed 'fake' to me. Perhaps it is their packaging (bright, pink, superbly eye-catching) that makes them look a little less wholesome and more full of weird stuff in their ingredient list that you never want to question.
But recently my nutrition has been, how shall I put it, a bit short of shit. My academic schedule has been nuts this Hilary Term (second term), which has unfortunately translated into my eating habits been horrible. I try to be like some who don't stress eat but that's a massive problem for me. I literally reach out for that bag of Kettle's sour cream and onion chips every time my reading gets tough. That has also been part of the reason why I haven't been blogging much because I feel as though I haven't set much of a good standard as to how to live a healthy life. But I realised that this blog is as much for myself as it is for other people to view my journey, a constant one, to living a better life. It's not for me to show, as I feel some bloggers may be pressured to, everyone that I am eating 100% clean or not having any setbacks. But, at the risk of sounding super cheesy/cliched, it is to show that I am human and I eat a hecka lot of shit sometimes but I always try to get back on track. The whole 'not about how many times you fall but how many times you get up thing'. Hahaha.
As of last week, the workload has eased up as I have now officially finished the deadly essay deadlines ( I had 3 in the last week - not fun) and gotten a few other things out of the way. So I have decided to go on a detox it is high time for one. Some of you will still doubt the effectiveness of a detox but trust me it feels so so good post-detox. I can't do a juice detox as I have no juicer in university. So mid-scroll I came upon Bootea's post on my Insta newsfeed. Bootea is the UK version of SMTea Australia that is highly publized on Instagram. I did my research and realised that the ingredients are all natural, as you can see below. So I thought I would give it a try!
As I mentioned above I was hugely sceptical as to the 'weight loss claims' the company makes. I still don't think it does anything in the way of keeping the weight off people in the long run because only through diet changes and increased exercise can one do that. Whilst tons of people report a dramatic weight loss, I think this is due to the cleansing effect that may cause people to drop a lot of water weight. So for me, I am doing this for a detox more than for weight loss. My body feels horrible and sluggish. My skin is really bad and breaking out a lot which is not normal and more reminiscent of those scary Benenden pubescent days. I crave salty and sugary foods non-stop, which is not normal for me. So I'm quite excited for this!!
Today has been the first day! You can buy Bootea from Holland & Barrett which is now doing a buy one get one half price deal on everything in the shop, which is where I bought mine. But you can get it delivered from the H & B website or from the Bootea website itself here. I bought two 14 day programmes for my mum and I.So I am happy to put down her results too as we are doing this together. As I mentioned above, I have stabilised my eating habits a bit more this past week, eating more fruit, less sugar etc. So I am not going to be changing anything else this week (like drastically dieting or exercising along with drinking the tea) so that the effects of the tea can really be isolated out. I felt like a lot of the reviewers I read would diet and exercise more when drinking the tea which really does not show me how the tea itself works!
I will post up an update on Day 8 and a concluding one on Day 14! The programme consists of daytime and nighttime tea sachets - one daytime tea every morning, and one nighttime tea every other night. So far I have had the Daytime Tea which tastes slightly lemony and gingery. Nothing too weird or funky - quite nice really! So we shall see how the Nighttime Tea goes (which is apparently the big one).
Excited for my nighttime tea!
